87 Berezkin Rostislav, (Fudan University, China) Writing on the Mores of Native Place: “Records of Haiyu Customs” by Wu Shuangre (ca. 1889–1934)  1 Keywords: Ethnography, customs, festivals, Republican literature, miscellaneous records Wu Shuangre ੤ৼ✝ (ca. 1889–1934) was a writer of the butterfly and mandarin ducks fiction ( 呣呟㶤㶦⍮ ). His original name was Wu Xu ੤ᚔ , but he was also known under the pseudonyms of Shuangre, Yihan аሂ , Weiyu ⑝⑄ , Hanhun ≹ 兲 (Chinese Soul), etc. The native of Changshu ᑨ⟏ in Jiangsu, he came from the educated family, graduated from Normal college, and in 1912 became the editor of Shanghai newspaper People’s Rights ≁ᵳᣕ . His novels the Sorrowful Story of Lanniang ޠ ၈૰ਢ and Mirror of Sins and Injustice ᆭ ߔ 䮌 were published in the supplementary magazine of this newspaper. Later on, he became a co-founder of the Novel Magazine ሿ䈤ыᣕ , and worked as an editor in several newspapers. At the end of his life Wu Shuangre served as a teacher in the secondary school in Nanjing. Wu Shuangre was famous for his humorous style and flowery language.
