As the models of her admiration she shows young and healthy girls, many of whom are sportswomen. Nature is of great importance for Kanoko. The girls are situated in the surrealist nature scenery. The urban scenery of the capital can be seen in her works too. The heroine, Kohatsu, is put into the difficult situation of the existential choice. She prefers suicide as the liberation from the burden of existence, and she achieves the ideal freedom. The tragical atmosphere of Okamoto Kanoko’s works is defined by the Buddhist instruction. The idea of perishable being sounds in her many works. One can say with confidence that the lyric tone and religious idea were successfully realized in Kanoko’s work, which included the gallery of woman portraits.
